I'm thinking of getting some chickens and maybe a horse; is that allowed in a residential area?

Generally, you can have up to 24 small animals per acre; small animals are rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese or other fowl and similar animals raised and kept for personal consumptive purposes. "Small animal" does not include dogs or cats kept for personal companion purposes.

Large animals include: cattle, horses, sheep, goats, emus, ostrich, llamas, and bison. Please check your Zoning with the Planning Department to verify the appropriate number of large animals allowed on your parcel. Generally, for such animals if lot is over 20,000 square feet; they are not to exceed 2 animals per acre / 1 animal per half acre. (KCLDC Art. 11).
